New paper published in Antipode

I became involved in the Aberystwyth Transition Town initiative back in 2008 following a community showing of the documentary film The End of Suburbia. This paper, written with my colleague Kelvin Mason (who teaches at the Centre for Alternative Technology), described our involvement in this initiative. While Transition Town Aberystwyth has not had the impacts I hoped it would have on the place I live (although it continues on in various guises including a community farm/garden; a garden share scheme, and a reading group), I think that this paper helps to explain the difficulties of changing the socio-economic and political cultures of places that have developed in the complacent shadow of cheap oil.
